Contemporary Coastal Entrance Garden

Poole, Dorset

This contemporary, architect-designed house is in an enviable position looking out over Poole harbour. It deserved an approach that would frame the interest of its façade and elevate the sense of arrival, to lead into the big reveal of the stunning views beyond.

Architectural planting at the at the lower and mid-levels links the two large Monterey Pines that sit back from the entrance boundary with the main driveway to the house. Now, rather than dominating the entrance, they serve to introduce it.

Large Prunus lusitanica columns provide offset structural formality, Taxus cubes give solidity, with softer herbaceous planting bringing colour and scent. Pleached Carpinus soften the brick wall of the garage and help blend the building into the surroundings.
